This is not the first time in history where it is assumed that handwriting will soon go the way of the dinosaurs. When the typewriter was introduced, many believed that people would not hand write anymore. We must emphasize the importance of handwriting as many of our historical documents are written in cursive. The beautifully written Declaration of Independence included. If children are not taught cursive handwriting, they will not be able to read these documents let alone letters left to them from another generation. Never before has this country produced college bound students who can neither write nor read cursive. It is a slowly dying art form that we must not let go of.
Stick to your lesson plan for the day and get it done. Smaller children are masters at sensing weakness. Give them something to avoid - an energized execution of a well-planned day. They will sense that you are in the teaching zone and will show more respect for your strong presence as you work through your plan. Smaller children are one of the hardest factors to handle in homeschooling. But you can do it if you stay in the lead with each student as well as each future student.

While they are excellent tools for reviewing math facts such as the multiplication tables and division facts, they are just as useful for reviewing parts of speech or the states in the union. When you are teaching your student to write, there are a whole host of worksheets online that you can use. Many of these include clipart that will help the students learn the sounds of letters and letter combinations. There are other sheets that help the student learn to write his or her numbers.
